Time Travel Time
Are you ready to time travel? Well come on lets go! (In space later on.) I feel time travel sick. What about you? Are we there yet? Yes! Finally were here. About 4000 B.C. farmers lived between the Tigris and the Euphrates. They are the rivers that Mesopotamia was between. Both of the rivers start in the snow-capped Taurus Mountains but now in present day Turkey. Mesopotamia is now in the area of present day Iraq. Mesopotamia is in a piece of land called the Fertile Crescent which is very fertile. Now how about cuneiform. This is going to be good.
Cuneiform was the first type of writing. Cuneiform was invented by the Sumerian people. Overtime the Sumerians changed the symbols to make it easier and faster to write and recognize. What did they use to write with? What did they use to write on? They used sharp reeds and clay tablets to write with and to write on. There were about 500 or more symbols used everyday. I’m glad we have paper and pencils to use and easier letters or symbols to use. Cuneiform is still important so we know what happened in the past. Let’s go check out the ziggurats. I wonder if we could go in one.
Ziggurats were very important to the whole Mesopotamia land. Ziggurats were big temples. The Mesopotamia people believed that their gods lived at the top of the temples or Ziggurats. Only the priest could go to the top and inside the ziggurats no one really knows why. Aw man we can’t go in the ziggurats I was really hoping we could. Hey let’s ride on that wagon over there. Hey now that I thought about how the wagon is made we should really go check out about the wheels.
The wheel was very important and it is still today very important. The wheel was invented by the Mesopotamia people. One of the first wheels used was on farm wagons and war chariots. Wheels are everywhere just think about it. The wheel has been proven one of the most important inventions handmade in human history. What would we have done without the wheel? Everyone would very miserable and tired. We all better be happy that the wheel was invented. Wow I never knew the wheel was that important. Let’s go home I’m tired now. My brain has to have a rest. It got over loaded with all that information.
That is a little about Mesopotamia. Hope you learned a little about Cuneiform, Ziggurats, and the Wheel. Maybe you could learn more about this stuff if you Google it, ask your teacher if you are in school, ask your parents at home, or maybe find a book about it. I hope you want to learn more about this stuff because then you would be smart about Mesopotamia. You might also love history so you want to learn more about Mesopotamia. I’m learning about a bunch of civilizations in social studies. Well hope you learned from our time travel we had about Mesopotamia. Now let's go home! Uh oh our time travel machine won't start. Oh no we're stuck here forever! Oh great now we get to live in the past of Mesopotamia. How wonderful. Not!
